Open Visio and go to File > Account. An activated copy shows Product Activated, with your Visio edition under Product Information. How to activate it, if it isn't, depends on whether your licence is volume or retail.
Volume licence
The configuration file from Install Visio Professional 2024 installs your key with Visio, and Microsoft explains that activation with a Multiple Activation Key instructs the computer "to activate itself" against Microsoft's activation services. Open Visio with the PC online. If File > Account still asks for activation, use one of the three ways below.
Volume licence, in Visio
Go to File > Account, select Change Product Key, enter your key and select Activate.
Volume licence, with ospp.vbs
- Open Start and type cmd. Right-click Command Prompt, choose Run as administrator and select Yes.
- Type dir /s /b "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\ospp.vbs" and press Enter. For 32-bit Visio on 64-bit Windows, type Program Files (x86) in place of Program Files. The line that comes back shows the folder that holds ospp.vbs.
- Type cd /d, a space and that folder in quotes, and press Enter. The folder is usually "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16".
- Type cscript ospp.vbs /inpkey: followed by your key, with no space after the colon, and press Enter.
- Type cscript ospp.vbs /act and press Enter.
- Type cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus and press Enter.
The /dstatus output lists the Visio licence in its own block, separate from Office. Its LICENSE STATUS line shows LICENSED once activation has gone through.
Volume licence, through the portal
If online activation doesn't go through, Visio activates with a Confirmation ID from Microsoft's Product Activation Portal, in the same way as Office. Activate Office when online activation doesn't work has the steps.
Retail licence
A retail copy activates through the Microsoft account the key was redeemed to. Open Visio and sign in with that account when asked. File > Account then shows the product and the account it belongs to.
