Check that Office is activated
Reading the Account page in Word and the licence status from ospp.vbs

Open Word and go to File > Account. An activated copy of Office LTSC 2024 shows Product Activated under Product Information, with Office LTSC Professional Plus 2024 or Office LTSC Standard 2024 beneath it. Any other message there, such as Product Activation Required, means Office still needs to be activated. The Office 365 Pro Account works differently, as its section below explains.
Check with ospp.vbs
For the detail behind the Account page, open Command Prompt as administrator, change to the folder that holds ospp.vbs, and run cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus. Activate Office 2024 with your product key shows how to find the folder.
Each licence on the PC gets its own block of lines.
- LICENSE NAME shows the product the licence belongs to.
- LICENSE DESCRIPTION shows the licence channel, such as a volume MAK licence.
- LICENSE STATUS shows LICENSED when the licence is activated. Anything else means it isn't activated yet.
- Last 5 characters of installed product key shows the end of the key, to compare with your delivery email.
To see why an activation attempt failed, run cscript ospp.vbs /dhistoryacterr, which lists recent attempts with their error codes.
More than one licence listed
If /dstatus shows licences for more than one product, licences from an earlier version of Office are still on the PC. They can make Word show the wrong product name or ask for activation. Office shows an older version or a different product shows how to remove them.
Check the version
File > Account > About Word shows the exact version and build, and whether Office is 32-bit or 64-bit.
Office 365 Pro Account
The apps from the Office 365 Pro Account activate when you sign in with the account, and the steps above are for the product key of Office LTSC 2024. In Word, File > Account shows the account you're signed in with. If Word asks you to sign in, or shows a different account, follow Can't sign in to your Office 365 Pro Account.
Sending the status to us
If you need help, include the /dstatus output in your message. It shows only the last five characters of each key, so it's safe to send. What to include when you contact support shows how to save it to a file.
