Office for Mac installs from one package that Microsoft provides for every licence type. Microsoft notes that "The same installer package can be used for Microsoft 365 subscriptions, Office LTSC for Mac 2024, and Office LTSC for Mac 2021." The licence decides which product the apps become, so once they're installed you run the Volume License Serializer to make them Office LTSC Standard for Mac 2024.
Before you start
- Check that the Mac runs a supported version of macOS, listed in Office for Mac requirements and supported macOS versions.
- Make sure there's at least 10 GB of free disk space.
- Have the password of an administrator account on the Mac.
- Quit any Office apps that are open.
Install the apps
- Download the installer from Microsoft's Office LTSC for Mac 2024 download link.
- Open the Downloads folder and double-click the .pkg file.
- Select Continue through the introduction, agree to the licence, and select Install.
- Enter the Mac's administrator password and select Install Software.
- Select Close when the installation finishes.
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote are now in the Applications folder.
Activate before you start work
Run the Volume License Serializer next, as described in Activate Office for Mac. Once it has run, the apps open without asking you to activate or sign in.
If Office was already on the Mac
A Mac that had Microsoft 365 or an earlier Office can keep that licence after the new apps are installed, and Office may then ask you to sign in or to choose a licence. Office for Mac keeps asking you to activate or sign in shows how to clear the old licence.
