Office for Mac updates through Microsoft AutoUpdate, which installs alongside the apps. Leave it switched on, because it's how security updates reach the Mac until 9 October 2029.
Check for updates now
- Open any Office app, such as Word.
- Choose Help > Check for Updates. Microsoft AutoUpdate opens.
- Select Update to install everything it lists.
To have updates installed without asking, turn on automatic updates in the AutoUpdate window.
See which version you have
Open Word and choose Word > About Word. Office LTSC for Mac 2024 versions start at 16.89.
When updates stop arriving
Office for Mac only receives updates on the three most recent major versions of macOS. If AutoUpdate finds nothing for a long time, check the macOS version in Apple menu > About This Mac against Office for Mac requirements and supported macOS versions.
