The supplier advertises the account for up to five devices, across Windows PCs, Macs, tablets and phones. To move the account to a new device, sign out on a device you no longer use, either in the apps on that device or remotely from Microsoft's account page.
Sign out on the device
  • On Windows, in any Microsoft 365 app, go to File > Account and select Sign out, then close all the apps.
  • On a Mac, in any Microsoft 365 app, select the app's name in the top menu, select Sign Out, then quit all the apps.
  • On an iPhone or iPad, tap Account, tap the account you're using, then tap Sign Out and Sign Out again to confirm.
  • On Android, tap the person icon on the Recent screen, tap your name, then tap Sign Out and Sign Out again to confirm.
Sign out of a device you no longer have
  1. Go to portal.office.com/Account and sign in with the account.
  2. Select the Office apps & devices tile, then View apps and devices.
  3. Under Apps & devices, expand DEVICES to see where the apps are installed.
  4. Select Sign out next to the device.
Microsoft notes that "It can take up to 72 hours for Office to detect that you signed out remotely."
After you sign out
Microsoft states that "After you sign out of Office, you still can view and print documents from that device, but you won't be able to edit them or create new ones." Files saved to OneDrive stay in the account and open on your other devices.
Using the account on a new device
Install the apps on the new device and sign in with the account. Install the apps from your Office 365 Pro Account covers Windows and Mac, and Use your Office 365 Pro Account on phones and tablets covers mobile devices. Microsoft also says Office signs devices out automatically "to stay within your sign-in limit", so a device you haven't used for some time may be signed out when you sign in on a new one.
Microsoft's pages Sign out of Office and Deactivate an installation of Office have the same steps.
