How long Microsoft sends security updates for each product we sell, and what happens afterwards

Office LTSC 2024, Office LTSC for Mac 2024, Project 2024 and Visio 2024 are supported until 9 October 2029. Windows Server 2025 has mainstream support until 13 November 2029 and security updates until 14 November 2034. Windows 11 works differently, with each yearly version supported for 24 months, so keeping Windows up to date keeps it supported. The Office 365 Pro Account has no end date of its own.

- Office LTSC Professional Plus 2024 and Standard 2024, until 9 October 2029
- Office LTSC Standard for Mac 2024, until 9 October 2029
- Office 365 Pro Account, no set end date, as Microsoft lists Microsoft 365 Apps as in support under its Modern Lifecycle Policy
- Project Professional 2024, until 9 October 2029
- Visio Professional 2024, until 9 October 2029
- Windows 11 Pro, 24 months for each yearly version. Version 26H2, released on 29 September 2026, is the current one
- Windows Server 2025 Standard, mainstream support until 13 November 2029 and security updates until 14 November 2034
Microsoft's overview of the 2024 release says "Office LTSC 2024, including Project and Visio, receive five years of Mainstream Support. After this period, there will be no Extended Support for these products."
What happens when support ends
The software keeps working. It stops receiving security updates, which leaves it more exposed over time. Microsoft supports Office LTSC 2024 for connecting to Microsoft 365 services, such as Exchange Online mailboxes, until the same date, 9 October 2029.
Office 365 Pro Account
Microsoft states that "Microsoft 365 Apps follows the Modern Lifecycle Policy," and its lifecycle page lists Microsoft 365 Apps as in support. The apps on the account update themselves, so there's no version to replace. Access depends on the Microsoft 365 subscription behind the account staying active, as the product page explains.
Earlier versions
Office 2016 and Office 2019 reached the end of support on 14 October 2025, and Office 2021, Office LTSC 2021, Project 2021 and Visio 2021 followed on 13 October 2026.
