How Office LTSC 2024 receives security updates, and how to install them straight away

Office LTSC 2024 updates itself. It receives security and quality updates every month until 9 October 2029, and it doesn't receive new features, because the LTSC editions stay on the feature set they were released with. Updates download in the background and finish installing when the Office apps are closed.
Update now
- Open any Office app, such as Word.
- Go to File > Account > Update Options and select Update Now.
- Close the Office apps when Office asks, and leave the PC on until the update finishes.
If updates are switched off
When updates are turned off, the Update Options menu shows Enable Updates. Select it, then select Update Now.
Leave the update channel as it is
Office LTSC 2024 uses the PerpetualVL2024 update channel, set by the Channel value in the configuration file you installed with. Microsoft gives the example that "the volume licensed version of Office Professional Plus 2019 can only use the PerpetualVL2019 update channel", and Office LTSC 2024 works the same way with PerpetualVL2024. Leave that value unchanged.
See which version is installed
Go to File > Account > About Word. The window shows the version and build number, and whether Office is 32-bit or 64-bit.
Don't interrupt an update
Shutting the PC down or letting it sleep while an update installs can leave Office unable to open, with error 147-0. Office error 147-0 explains how to recover.
