Activate Office 2024 with your product key
Activating Office LTSC Professional Plus or Standard 2024 online, from Word or from the command line

If you installed Office with the configuration file in our installation guide, it activated itself as the installation finished, because the file includes the AUTOACTIVATE setting. Open Word and go to File > Account to confirm. If Office isn't activated, enter the key in Word or with the ospp.vbs script, with the PC connected to the internet.
Activate from Word
- Open Word. If a sign-in screen appears, close it. Office LTSC 2024 activates with its product key and doesn't need a Microsoft account.
- Go to File > Account and, under Product Information, select Change Product Key.
- In the Change Product Key window, type the 25-character key from your delivery email and select Activate.
- If the Microsoft Office Activation Wizard opens, choose "I want to activate the software over the Internet." and select Next.
- Close Word, open it again and check File > Account. It should say Product Activated, with Office LTSC Professional Plus 2024 or Office LTSC Standard 2024 underneath.
Activate from the command line
Office includes a licensing script called ospp.vbs. Open Command Prompt as administrator and find the folder it's in.
Microsoft's documentation places it in Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16, and some installations leave out the root folder, so use the path the search returns. With 32-bit Office on 64-bit Windows, search under Program Files (x86) instead.
Change to that folder, then install the key, activate it and check the status.
In the /dstatus output, the LICENSE STATUS line should read ---LICENSED---. If activation failed, cscript ospp.vbs /dhistoryacterr lists the recent attempts with their error codes.
Entering the key
- Check each group of five characters against the delivery email.
- If you paste the key, check that the hyphens came through as plain hyphens. Microsoft warns that a clipboard can swap them for dashes, and the key is then rejected.
- A Professional Plus key only activates Professional Plus, and a Standard key only activates Standard. The edition you installed has to match the one you bought.
When activation doesn't go through
