Install Project Professional 2024
The volume licence route with the Office Deployment Tool, and the retail route through a Microsoft account

Project Professional 2024 installs one of two ways, depending on the licence. A volume licence installs with the Office Deployment Tool, in the same way as Office LTSC 2024. A retail licence is redeemed to a Microsoft account and installed from that account. Your delivery email says which route your key uses.
Before you start
- Project 2024 runs on Windows only. Microsoft lists Windows 11, Windows 10 and Windows Server 2019 as supported.
- Project has to use the same architecture as the Office on the PC, so both 32-bit or both 64-bit. File > Account > About Word shows which Office you have.
- Uninstall any older version of Project first.
- Sign in to Windows with an administrator account.
Volume licence route
1. Download the Office Deployment Tool and extract it to C:\ODT, as described in Install Office 2024 Professional Plus or Standard. If the folder is already there from installing Office, use it.
2. Open Notepad and paste this, with your Project key in place of the X's. Change OfficeClientEdition to 32 if the Office on the PC is 32-bit.
2. Open Notepad and paste this, with your Project key in place of the X's. Change OfficeClientEdition to 32 if the Office on the PC is 32-bit.
3. Save it in C:\ODT as project.xml, with Save as type set to All files.
4. Open Command Prompt as administrator and run these commands.
4. Open Command Prompt as administrator and run these commands.
The language has to be en-us. Microsoft marks English (United Kingdom) as a language that "isn't available in Project or Visio," so use en-us for Project even when Office is installed in en-gb.
To install Project and Office together on a new PC, add the Project Product section to the Office configuration file, inside the same Add section, and run one installation.
Retail route
- Go to microsoft365.com/setup, sign in with your Microsoft account and enter your product key. Microsoft explains that redeeming the key "links your account with the Project app", and it only has to be done once.
- Go to microsoft365.com, select Sign in, and sign in with the same account.
- Select Install and more, then Services & subscriptions to see the products on your account.
- Find Project Professional 2024 and select Install. For another language or the 64-bit version, choose Other options first.
- Run the installer and select Yes when User Account Control asks.
- When it finishes, open Start and search for Project.
Microsoft's page Install Project has the same steps.
If setup stops
Project fails to install when its architecture or update channel doesn't match the Office on the PC. Project won't install alongside Office explains what has to match.
