Office won't open because an update didn't finish

Error 147-0 appears when you open an Office app, with the message "We couldn't open Microsoft 365 and Office because we're updating, adding or removing programmes." It usually follows a PC that was shut down or put to sleep while Office was installing an update, which leaves the update unfinished.
Steps
- Restart the PC from Start > Power > Restart. A restart fully restarts Windows, which Shut down doesn't always do when Fast Startup is turned on.
- After you sign in, give Windows a few minutes, then open Word.
- If Word opens, go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now and let the update finish. Keep the PC awake and switched on until it's done.
- If no Office app will open, repair Office from Windows Settings. Start with Quick Repair, and use Online Repair if Quick Repair doesn't help. Repair Office has the steps.
