Error 0-2048 comes from the Office Deployment Tool, and it often shows as 0-2048 (0). In Microsoft's answers about installing Office LTSC 2024, it means the tool can't locate or read the configuration file. The same code also appears when setup isn't running with administrator rights, even though the file itself is fine.
Steps
1. Run Command Prompt as administrator. Open Start, type cmd, right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator. A Command Prompt opened the normal way doesn't have the rights setup needs.
2. Keep configuration.xml in the same folder as setup.exe, and run the command from that folder.
2. Keep configuration.xml in the same folder as setup.exe, and run the command from that folder.
3. Check the real file name. In File Explorer, choose View > Show > File name extensions. If the file turns out to be configuration.xml.txt, rename it to configuration.xml. The name in the command has to match the file name exactly.
4. Save the file as UTF-8. In Notepad, choose File > Save as, set Encoding to UTF-8 and save over the old file.
5. Check any SourcePath value. If the Add line includes SourcePath, the folder it names has to exist and hold the Office folder created by the /download command, and the value shouldn't end in \Office. If you aren't installing from a downloaded copy, delete SourcePath from the line.
6. Run setup from a local folder. If the ODT folder is on a network share, copy it to the C drive, or map the share for the session with pushd.

7. Download first and install second. Run setup.exe /download configuration.xml, then setup.exe /configure configuration.xml.
8. Use the latest Office Deployment Tool from the Microsoft Download Center.
