Microsoft describes 0-2054 as a general error code, and it often shows as 0-2054 (0). The causes named in Microsoft's answers are pieces of an earlier Click-to-Run or Microsoft 365 installation left on the PC, out-of-date registry entries from that installation, and a configuration file that doesn't match what's being installed.
Steps
  1. Download the latest Office Deployment Tool from the Microsoft Download Center and extract it again.
  2. Install all available Windows updates from Settings > Windows Update, and restart.
  3. Check the configuration file against your order. The Product ID has to match your key, ProPlus2024Volume for Professional Plus or Standard2024Volume for Standard. The Channel has to be PerpetualVL2024, OfficeClientEdition has to match any Office product already on the PC, and the file name in your command has to match the file exactly.
  4. Remove leftovers from earlier installations. Uninstall every Office and Microsoft 365 entry in Settings > Apps > Installed apps. For Microsoft 365 and Office 2016 to 2021, run Microsoft's uninstall troubleshooter as described in Remove older versions of Office before installing. Restart afterwards.
  5. Download first and install second. Run setup.exe /download configuration.xml, then setup.exe /configure configuration.xml.
When you're adding Project or Visio
If the error appears when you add Project or Visio to a PC that already has Office, check the update channel. Microsoft's rule is that "Products installed on the same computer must use the same update channel." A Microsoft moderator answering a 0-2054 question about volume licensed Project pointed to a channel mismatch with the Office already installed. Project won't install alongside Office and Visio won't install alongside Office cover the settings that have to match.
